Q: Can you explain the Leprechaun Launch a bit more? I watched a YouTube video on straw rockets and it made sense but when looking at the materials you have listed I am lost on what the students would do with the napkins, paperclips and popsicle sticks. Thank you!
A: I use these in my classroom (I teach 2nd grade). What I like to do is place out a variety of materials. They may or may not use the materials. The object is to get the students thinking about how to create that goal. I do not show them examples, unless we look online since they probably won’t use the same materials, because I want them to think on their own and not copy. You will not have a matching launcher and that’s what is great about this! It also allows students to think about what they could change to make it better after their test. I hope that helps!
Q: Hello! What are great product! I can’t wait to build them with my kids. Just wondering if there are some instructions or more visual pictures of the completed projects. I would like to have a visual so they can get some type of idea.
A: They are so much fun! Actually, I actually don’t have any pictures because I want the students to take the materials and run with it. I’ve found that if I provide pictures, they just copy my design. I’m sorry.
Q: Can you tell me about how long each of the STEM activities will take?
A: Sure! For this set, I have allowed 30 minutes for construction. However, many factors can increase the time depending on how much or how little you do. There are planning pages to be done before the construction (some include research) and a reflection sheet that you may deem optional. I would assume data collection would be necessary, so that would include additional time to test, record, and reflect on those results. Hope that helps! Thanks!
