Are you tired of teaching phonics with simple words like sale, time, and peak? Well, look no further! I have created a phonics packet of long vowel phonics worksheets that will focus on the phonics sounds while using more challenging words to engage your audience of 2nd and 3rd graders. I have chosen words that are richer in VOCABULARY content and have MULTIPLE syllables!
15 Long Vowels – 4 activities per skill = 60 pages of phonics instruction.
- Included are: a_e, ai, ay, ee, ea, ey, i_e, ie, igh, o_e, ow, oa, u_e, ue, ew
WHAT’S INCLUDED with EACH AND EVERY long vowel:
- INTRODUCTION PAGE – FLUENCY – circle long vowels, read words 3x each, and read to partners;
- SPELLING – unscramble;
- PHONICS FOCUS – syllables, long vowel place, or comparing sounds and ABC Order;
- APPLICATION – Sentence Completion
- COMPREHENSION PAGE – APPLICATION – read the story littered with the long vowel of the week;
- COMPREHENSION – answer the questions;
- FLUENCY – repeated readings of the story.
- HANDS-ON PAGE – PHONICS FOCUS – Cut and paste activity
- VOCABULARY – choose and draw a word;
- APPLICATION – choose a word and write in a sentence
- WORD SEARCH – SPELLING – find the words in the search, but be careful…..there are “dud” words strewed about!
