<p class="wp-block-paragraph">As the&nbsp;end of the school year&nbsp;approaches, I know how tricky it can be to keep students focused. The&nbsp;excitement of summer break&nbsp;is real. Attention spans are running on empty. Instead of counting down the days, I like to lean into the energy and make these final weeks meaningful. Whether it&#8217;s hands-on activities,&nbsp;brain breaks, or giving our students more&nbsp;student choice, there are so many&nbsp;fun ways&nbsp;to keep learning going strong. Today, I&#8217;m sharing my favorite strategies for&nbsp;keeping students engaged at the end of the year&nbsp;while making it fun for everyone!</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" width="1024" height="576" src="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Keeping-Students-Engaged-at-the-End-of-the-Year-9-Great-Activities-Header-1024x576.png" alt="9 Activities to Keep Students Engaged at the End of the Year." class="wp-image-10990497" style="width:596px;height:auto" srcset="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Keeping-Students-Engaged-at-the-End-of-the-Year-9-Great-Activities-Header-1024x576.png 1024w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Keeping-Students-Engaged-at-the-End-of-the-Year-9-Great-Activities-Header-800x450.png 800w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Keeping-Students-Engaged-at-the-End-of-the-Year-9-Great-Activities-Header-300x169.png 300w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Keeping-Students-Engaged-at-the-End-of-the-Year-9-Great-Activities-Header-768x432.png 768w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Keeping-Students-Engaged-at-the-End-of-the-Year-9-Great-Activities-Header-1536x864.png 1536w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Keeping-Students-Engaged-at-the-End-of-the-Year-9-Great-Activities-Header-2048x1152.png 2048w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Why Keeping Students Engaged at the End of the Year Matters</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I get it. By the end of the year, everyone is exhausted. The school year draws to a close, summer is calling, and it feels like a battle just to get our students to stay focused. These last weeks of school are more than just a countdown. They’re a great time to reinforce learning, celebrate growth, and set the stage for the next grade level.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">When we keep our students engaged, we’re not just keeping them busy; we’re helping them finish strong. The goal is to make these last days meaningful. Even a small&nbsp;change of pace&nbsp;can keep our&nbsp;students’ attention&nbsp;and make them feel like their hard work all year long matters.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">So, let’s lean into&nbsp;intentional strategies&nbsp;that make learning exciting, even when we’re at the&nbsp;finish line. Trust me. When our students stay engaged, those&nbsp;very last days&nbsp;feel more rewarding for everyone!</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Keeping Students Engaged at the End of the Year With Intentional Activities</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The&nbsp;end of the school year&nbsp;doesn’t have to be a struggle to keep our students focused. In fact, it’s the&nbsp;perfect time&nbsp;to shake things up and bring in&nbsp;fun activities&nbsp;that still reinforce learning. There are&nbsp;many ways&nbsp;to make sure students stay excited and involved.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I’ve put together&nbsp;nine easy ideas&nbsp;for&nbsp;keeping our students engaged at the end of the year. Each one is designed to add energy, purpose, and a little bit of fun to these&nbsp;last weeks of school. From&nbsp;interactive activities&nbsp;to&nbsp;small group work&nbsp;and even letting students take on the role of teacher, these strategies will help everyone finish the year strong. Let’s get started!</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">1. Task Cards to the Rescue</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image alignright size-large is-resized"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="1024" src="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Keeping-Students-Engaged-at-the-End-of-the-Year-9-Great-Activities-Images-1-1-1024x1024.png" alt="Using task cards as questions for a board game is a great way to review at the end of the year." class="wp-image-10990487" style="width:410px;height:auto" srcset="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Keeping-Students-Engaged-at-the-End-of-the-Year-9-Great-Activities-Images-1-1-1024x1024.png 1024w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Keeping-Students-Engaged-at-the-End-of-the-Year-9-Great-Activities-Images-1-1-300x300.png 300w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Keeping-Students-Engaged-at-the-End-of-the-Year-9-Great-Activities-Images-1-1-800x800.png 800w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Keeping-Students-Engaged-at-the-End-of-the-Year-9-Great-Activities-Images-1-1-150x150.png 150w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Keeping-Students-Engaged-at-the-End-of-the-Year-9-Great-Activities-Images-1-1-768x768.png 768w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Keeping-Students-Engaged-at-the-End-of-the-Year-9-Great-Activities-Images-1-1-1536x1536.png 1536w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Keeping-Students-Engaged-at-the-End-of-the-Year-9-Great-Activities-Images-1-1.png 2048w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">What&#8217;s the easiest way to keep your students on task? Get them out of their seats! That’s what I love about&nbsp;keeping my students engaged at the end of the year with task cards. They work well for a&nbsp;SCOOT game, where students rotate around the room answering different questions. You can even use them as a&nbsp;scavenger hunt, where they search for and solve task cards hidden around the classroom. I’ve even used them in an&nbsp;escape room&nbsp;format, where my students work in&nbsp;small groups&nbsp;to solve a set of context clue challenges before moving on to the next step. These activities keep them thinking while giving them a&nbsp;fun way&nbsp;to stay focused during the&nbsp;last couple of weeks of school.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I also love to use task cards as the question cards for board games. When it comes to playing a review game, the hardest part is coming up with questions! Instead of racking your brain to create new questions, grab a set of task cards with the skills you want students to practice. You can use them with a mainstream board game or a custom-made game. It&#8217;s an easy way to keep students excited and learning. In my TPT store, you will find lots of <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Elementary-Island/Category/-Task-Cards-338222?utm_source=EI%20BLOG%20&amp;utm_campaign=KEEPING%20STUDENTS%20ENGAGED%20AT%20THE%20END%20OF%20THE%20YEAR" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">task card resources</a> on a variety of skills and concepts.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Another great way to use task cards is to encourage&nbsp;student leaders. If a student has a strong grasp on&nbsp;context clues, they can take turns guiding their classmates through the cards, acting as a “teacher” for the day. More on this below! This simple shift helps with&nbsp;keeping students engaged at the end of the year&nbsp;because it gives them ownership of their learning. It also lets them take pride in what they’ve mastered.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">There are so many creative ways to use task cards in the classroom. <h3 class="wp-block-heading">2. Cross-Curricular Learning With STEM</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image alignleft size-large is-resized"><a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Spring-STEM-Activities-for-April-Hands-On-Spring-Activities-STEM-Challenges-3692875?utm_source=EI%20BLOG%20&amp;utm_campaign=KEEPING%20STUDENTS%20ENGAGED%20AT%20THE%20END%20OF%20THE%20YEAR" target="_blank" rel=" noreferrer noopener"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="1024" src="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/2-1-1024x1024.png" alt="the Spring STEM pack is an engaging end of the year activity that allows students to work as a team and use problem-solving skills." class="wp-image-10990468" style="width:394px;height:auto" srcset="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/2-1-1024x1024.png 1024w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/2-1-300x300.png 300w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/2-1-800x800.png 800w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/2-1-150x150.png 150w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/2-1-768x768.png 768w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/2-1-1536x1536.png 1536w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/2-1.png 2048w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></a></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">By the last weeks of school, I love pulling together cross-curricular activities that combine reading, writing, math, science, and art. Whether it’s <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Elementary-Island/Category/-STEM-282245?utm_source=EI%20BLOG%20&amp;utm_campaign=KEEPING%20STUDENTS%20ENGAGED%20AT%20THE%20END%20OF%20THE%20YEAR" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">STEM challenges</a>, a math craft, or a fun project that ties subjects together, these activities help our students see the real-world connections in what they’ve learned all year. It’s an easy way to keep engagement high while wrapping up the year with meaningful learning.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">One of my favorite resources for&nbsp;keeping students engaged at the end of the year&nbsp;is this&nbsp;<a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Spring-STEM-Activities-for-April-Hands-On-Spring-Activities-STEM-Challenges-3692875?utm_source=EI%20BLOG%20&amp;utm_campaign=KEEPING%20STUDENTS%20ENGAGED%20AT%20THE%20END%20OF%20THE%20YEAR" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Spring STEM pack</a>. It includes&nbsp;four hands-on STEM activities&nbsp;that encourage creativity,&nbsp;problem-solving skills, and teamwork. Each challenge comes with&nbsp;planning, recording, and reflection sheets, so our students are thinking critically about their process from start to finish.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I love how STEM challenges bring together so many different subject areas. Science blends with math concepts, engineering connects to real-world problem-solving, and writing ties it all together with reflections. These activities allow our students to work in small groups, share ideas, and build confidence in their design thinking. Plus, they’re a fun way to embrace the warmer weather by taking some of the activities outdoors when possible!</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you&#8217;re looking for an easy idea to boost engagement while making the most of these final days, check out this <a href="https://www.elementaryislandblog.com/2019/02/easy-stem-activity-to-get-your-students-excited-freebie.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Easy STEM Activity</a> blog post, where you can grab a <a href="https://landing.mailerlite.com/webforms/landing/y3o2s2" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">free STEM activity</a> to use with your students! </p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">3. Make Learning Visible With Interactive Displays</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image alignright size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="1024" src="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Keeping-Students-Engaged-at-the-End-of-the-Year-9-Great-Activities-Images-2-1024x1024.png" alt="Interactive displays on the white board or anchor charts allow students to move throughout the lesson and keep the engaged during the last few months of school." class="wp-image-10990493" style="width:404px;height:auto" srcset="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Keeping-Students-Engaged-at-the-End-of-the-Year-9-Great-Activities-Images-2-1024x1024.png 1024w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Keeping-Students-Engaged-at-the-End-of-the-Year-9-Great-Activities-Images-2-300x300.png 300w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Keeping-Students-Engaged-at-the-End-of-the-Year-9-Great-Activities-Images-2-800x800.png 800w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Keeping-Students-Engaged-at-the-End-of-the-Year-9-Great-Activities-Images-2-150x150.png 150w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Keeping-Students-Engaged-at-the-End-of-the-Year-9-Great-Activities-Images-2-768x768.png 768w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Keeping-Students-Engaged-at-the-End-of-the-Year-9-Great-Activities-Images-2-1536x1536.png 1536w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Keeping-Students-Engaged-at-the-End-of-the-Year-9-Great-Activities-Images-2.png 2048w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">One of my favorite ways to keep students engaged at the end of the year is by giving them the chance to showcase their learning in real time. By this time of year, our students have worked hard mastering different skills. Seeing their progress displayed builds confidence and keeps students’ attention. I love using interactive displays where my students add their names when they find specific skills in their work. If they spot a caption in a nonfiction book, they write their name on the caption poster. If they notice a contraction, they add it to the contraction chart. This turns skill review into a class-wide challenge that encourages friendly competition while reinforcing what they’ve learned throughout the year.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This is a fun way to keep students engaged because it takes the skills they have learned and puts them into the real world. Instead of knowing that they are learning about contractions, they are tapping into what they previously learned and recalling it. I love how adaptable this idea is. My students can identify figurative language, types of angles, or sentence structures, making it an easy way to reinforce skills across the curriculum. Since our students naturally love seeing their names displayed, this strategy works well for different learning styles.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Since the&nbsp;very end of the school year&nbsp;is a&nbsp;great time&nbsp;for reflection, I love tying this activity into a&nbsp;memory book&nbsp;or&nbsp;student survey. This creates a space for our&nbsp;students to write about their biggest growth moments. Whether used during&nbsp;the last weeks of school&nbsp;or even on the&nbsp;very last day, this&nbsp;interactive display&nbsp;helps our students see their&nbsp;hard work&nbsp;in action. It’s about&nbsp;celebrating progress&nbsp;before they move on to the&nbsp;next grade level!</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">4. Use Digital Activities to Engage Your Students</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image alignleft size-large is-resized"><a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Elementary-Island/Category/-DIGITAL-Google-Slides-Forms-427175?utm_source=EI%20BLOG%20&amp;utm_campaign=KEEPING%20STUDENTS%20ENGAGED%20AT%20THE%20END%20OF%20THE%20YEAR" target="_blank" rel=" noreferrer noopener"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="1024" src="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Keeping-Students-Engaged-at-the-End-of-the-Year-9-Great-Activities-Images-1-1024x1024.png" alt="Digital activities keep students engaged and hold their attention span while the school year winds down." class="wp-image-10990473" style="width:411px;height:auto" srcset="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Keeping-Students-Engaged-at-the-End-of-the-Year-9-Great-Activities-Images-1-1024x1024.png 1024w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Keeping-Students-Engaged-at-the-End-of-the-Year-9-Great-Activities-Images-1-300x300.png 300w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Keeping-Students-Engaged-at-the-End-of-the-Year-9-Great-Activities-Images-1-800x800.png 800w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Keeping-Students-Engaged-at-the-End-of-the-Year-9-Great-Activities-Images-1-150x150.png 150w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Keeping-Students-Engaged-at-the-End-of-the-Year-9-Great-Activities-Images-1-768x768.png 768w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Keeping-Students-Engaged-at-the-End-of-the-Year-9-Great-Activities-Images-1-1536x1536.png 1536w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Keeping-Students-Engaged-at-the-End-of-the-Year-9-Great-Activities-Images-1.png 2048w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></a></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I love using <a href="https://www.elementaryislandblog.com/2021/02/The-Benefits-of-digital-activities-in-the-classroom.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">digital activities</a> as a way to change things up at the end of the year. When attention spans start to dwindle and the excitement of summer break kicks in, digital activities offer a fun way to reinforce skills while keeping things interactive. Whether it’s <a href="https://www.elementaryislandblog.com/2018/10/meet-boom-cards-your-new-teaching-bff.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">BOOM Cards</a> for instant feedback or <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Elementary-Island/Category/-DIGITAL-Google-Slides-Forms-427175?utm_source=EI%20BLOG%20&amp;utm_campaign=KEEPING%20STUDENTS%20ENGAGED%20AT%20THE%20END%20OF%20THE%20YEAR" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Google Slides for hands-on learning</a>, digital resources make learning feel fresh. They also take the pressure off us because they’re low prep and easy to implement. This gives us more time to focus on guiding our students instead of managing endless stacks of papers. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Digital resources also work well when I need a&nbsp;quick, engaging activity&nbsp;to reward&nbsp;hard work. I’ll often use&nbsp;BOOM Cards&nbsp;as a&nbsp;little reward&nbsp;that still reinforces learning. These self-checking,&nbsp;game-like cards&nbsp;keep our&nbsp;students’ attention&nbsp;while providing&nbsp;instant feedback. They’re a&nbsp;great way&nbsp;to squeeze in&nbsp;extra practice&nbsp;without our students even realizing they’re reviewing. To learn more about how I use&nbsp;BOOM Cards, check out why they’ve become my <a href="https://www.elementaryislandblog.com/2018/10/meet-boom-cards-your-new-teaching-bff.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">go-to&nbsp;digital tools</a>!</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">5. Boost Engagement With Student Choice</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image alignright size-large is-resized"><a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Holiday-Math-Task-Cards-3-Digit-Addition-Task-Cards-Differentiated-Math-Center-10067236?utm_source=EI%20BLOG%20&amp;utm_campaign=KEEPING%20STUDENTS%20ENGAGED%20AT%20THE%20END%20OF%20THE%20YEAR" target="_blank" rel=" noreferrer noopener"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="1024" src="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/5-1-1024x1024.png" alt="Math task cards and spelling activities are great ways to keep students engaged at the end of the year." class="wp-image-10990471" style="width:371px;height:auto" srcset="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/5-1-1024x1024.png 1024w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/5-1-300x300.png 300w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/5-1-800x800.png 800w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/5-1-150x150.png 150w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/5-1-768x768.png 768w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/5-1-1536x1536.png 1536w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/5-1.png 2048w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></a></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">By the&nbsp;very end of the school year, giving our students some control over their work can be a&nbsp;game-changer. At this&nbsp;time of year, our students are craving a little more freedom. Incorporating&nbsp;student choice&nbsp;makes learning feel less like a chore. I love using&nbsp;<a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Holiday-Math-Task-Cards-3-Digit-Addition-Task-Cards-Differentiated-Math-Center-10067236?utm_source=EI%20BLOG%20&amp;utm_campaign=KEEPING%20STUDENTS%20ENGAGED%20AT%20THE%20END%20OF%20THE%20YEAR" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">math centers</a>,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Elementary-Island/Category/-Spelling-316720?utm_source=EI%20Blog&amp;utm_campaign=Spelling%20Category" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">spelling activities</a>, task cards, and digital activities&nbsp;where my students pick how they complete an assignment. If there are&nbsp;24 questions, they only have to do&nbsp;12. They get to pick which ones! This simple shift gives them a sense of ownership over their learning. It also ensures they get the&nbsp;academic practice&nbsp;they need before moving on to the&nbsp;next grade level.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Another&nbsp;great way&nbsp;to build&nbsp;student choice&nbsp;into the&nbsp;last weeks of school&nbsp;is through&nbsp;themed days&nbsp;or&nbsp;project-based learning. Letting students decide between&nbsp;different subject areas,&nbsp;like writing a&nbsp;personal narrative, researching a&nbsp;science topic, or creating a&nbsp;math-based design challenge,&nbsp;helps them stay engaged while reinforcing&nbsp;real-world connections. No matter how it’s incorporated,&nbsp;student choice&nbsp;is an&nbsp;easy way&nbsp;to increase engagement&nbsp;while giving them&nbsp;a little reward&nbsp;for all their&nbsp;hard work&nbsp;throughout the&nbsp;academic year.</p>

<div style="height:0px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">6. Make Learning Fun With Interactive Responses</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image alignleft size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="1024" src="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Keeping-Students-Engaged-at-the-End-of-the-Year-9-Great-Activities-Images-2-1024x1024.png" alt="The bet engagement strategies can be as simple as having the students answer questions in a different way, such as touching their nose, or even four corners." class="wp-image-10990475" style="width:372px;height:auto" srcset="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Keeping-Students-Engaged-at-the-End-of-the-Year-9-Great-Activities-Images-2-1024x1024.png 1024w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Keeping-Students-Engaged-at-the-End-of-the-Year-9-Great-Activities-Images-2-300x300.png 300w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Keeping-Students-Engaged-at-the-End-of-the-Year-9-Great-Activities-Images-2-800x800.png 800w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Keeping-Students-Engaged-at-the-End-of-the-Year-9-Great-Activities-Images-2-150x150.png 150w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Keeping-Students-Engaged-at-the-End-of-the-Year-9-Great-Activities-Images-2-768x768.png 768w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Keeping-Students-Engaged-at-the-End-of-the-Year-9-Great-Activities-Images-2-1536x1536.png 1536w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Keeping-Students-Engaged-at-the-End-of-the-Year-9-Great-Activities-Images-2.png 2048w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Sometimes, the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.elementaryislandblog.com/2018/11/activities-to-engage-students-now-with.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">best student engagement strategies</a>&nbsp;are the simplest. Instead of calling on my students in the usual way, I turn responses into&nbsp;a movement game. If the answer is&nbsp;A, they&nbsp;touch their nose. If it’s&nbsp;B, they&nbsp;touch the floor! This adds an element of&nbsp;friendly competition&nbsp;while making sure everyone is&nbsp;actively participating. These&nbsp;fun activities&nbsp;keep energy levels high and encourage our students to stay&nbsp;focused and engaged.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This strategy is especially effective for our&nbsp;younger students&nbsp;who need movement while they learn. Even&nbsp;older students&nbsp;appreciate a&nbsp;change of pace&nbsp;in their routine. I’ve also used this technique in&nbsp;small groups&nbsp;or during&nbsp;digital activities. My students respond by clicking or dragging their answers instead of simply writing them down. These&nbsp;simple ways&nbsp;to increase&nbsp;student engagement&nbsp;make a huge difference, especially as our students start to feel the pull of&nbsp;summer vacation. Keeping things&nbsp;interactive and exciting&nbsp;is the&nbsp;best way&nbsp;to help our students stay focused and learning.</p>

<div style="height:0px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">7. Differentiate to Meet All Skill Levels</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image alignright size-large is-resized"><a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Place-Value-Worksheets-Color-by-Number-Math-Color-by-Number-Code-Back-to-School-4067653?utm_source=EI%20BLOG%20&amp;utm_campaign=KEEPING%20STUDENTS%20ENGAGED%20AT%20THE%20END%20OF%20THE%20YEAR" target="_blank" rel=" noreferrer noopener"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="1024" src="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/3-1024x1024.png" alt="Color by Number Math Activities are the perfect mix of problem-solving and creativity, allowing students to work independently and stay engaged at the end of the year." class="wp-image-10990469" style="width:352px;height:auto" srcset="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/3-1024x1024.png 1024w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/3-300x300.png 300w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/3-800x800.png 800w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/3-150x150.png 150w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/3-768x768.png 768w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/3-1536x1536.png 1536w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/3.png 2048w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></a></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If there’s one thing I feel strongly about, it’s <a href="https://www.elementaryislandblog.com/2018/07/tips-for-making-differentiation-easy.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">differentiation</a>. Every class has students at different skill levels. When we ignore this and teach to the average, we create learning gaps. Differentiation is the easiest way to avoid this. Sometimes we have students working on different skills, while other times it is the same skill at a different level. Whether it’s tweaking an assignment so our students can work at their own pace or providing multiple ways to practice a skill, differentiation helps keep students engaged at the end of the year, no matter where they are in their learning journey. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">One of my favorite ways to do this is through <a href="https://www.elementaryislandblog.com/2021/05/color-by-number.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">color by number math activities</a>. They provide an engaging mix of problem-solving and creativity. Since I believe so strongly in differentiation, I try to make it easy for you to put it into practice by providing you with differentiated options in my resources. For example, in my <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Place-Value-Worksheets-Color-by-Number-Math-Color-by-Number-Code-Back-to-School-4067653?utm_source=EI%20BLOG%20&amp;utm_campaign=KEEPING%20STUDENTS%20ENGAGED%20AT%20THE%20END%20OF%20THE%20YEAR" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Place Value Color by Number</a> resource, I included six differentiated puzzles that reinforce essential math skills. Your students solve place value problems, match their answers to a color key, and complete a mystery picture as they go. This activity works well for small groups, independent practice, or even as a little reward after a long lesson. Our students at different skill levels can work on a version that’s just right for them. No one feels frustrated or left behind. Plus, it’s an easy way to keep our students engaged while reviewing core concepts in a fun, hands-on way.</p>

<div style="height:1px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">8. Let Students Take the Lead as Student Teacher</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image alignleft size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="1024" src="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Keeping-Students-Engaged-at-the-End-of-the-Year-9-Great-Activities-Images-1024x1024.png" alt="Allowing students to be the teacher or lead a lesson is a perfect way to keep students engaged at the end of the year." class="wp-image-10990472" style="width:391px;height:auto" srcset="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Keeping-Students-Engaged-at-the-End-of-the-Year-9-Great-Activities-Images-1024x1024.png 1024w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Keeping-Students-Engaged-at-the-End-of-the-Year-9-Great-Activities-Images-300x300.png 300w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Keeping-Students-Engaged-at-the-End-of-the-Year-9-Great-Activities-Images-800x800.png 800w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Keeping-Students-Engaged-at-the-End-of-the-Year-9-Great-Activities-Images-150x150.png 150w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Keeping-Students-Engaged-at-the-End-of-the-Year-9-Great-Activities-Images-768x768.png 768w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Keeping-Students-Engaged-at-the-End-of-the-Year-9-Great-Activities-Images-1536x1536.png 1536w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Keeping-Students-Engaged-at-the-End-of-the-Year-9-Great-Activities-Images.png 2048w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">By the last couple weeks of school, our students know more than they realize! That’s why I love having a student teacher lead part of a lesson. When a student truly understands a concept, giving them the opportunity to teach their classmates builds confidence, leadership skills, and deeper understanding. I’ve found that when my students explain a skill in their own words, they often come up with explanations that resonate better with their peers. Sometimes, another student’s perspective is exactly what someone struggling with the concept needs to hear!</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This is a&nbsp;fun way&nbsp;to keep students engaged while reinforcing their learning. I like to choose a few&nbsp;student leaders&nbsp;each day to explain a&nbsp;math strategy, vocabulary word, or science concept&nbsp;we’ve been working on. For my students who might be a little shy, I let them work in&nbsp;small groups&nbsp;to prepare their explanations. Even a&nbsp;quick two-minute lesson&nbsp;from a&nbsp;student teacher&nbsp;can make a big impact on how well the rest of the class grasps the material.</p>

<div style="height:0px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">9. Hands-On Activities</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image alignright size-large is-resized"><a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Spring-Bulletin-Board-Math-Craft-with-Cross-Curricular-Writing-Options-7940676?utm_source=EI%20BLOG%20&amp;utm_campaign=KEEPING%20STUDENTS%20ENGAGED%20AT%20THE%20END%20OF%20THE%20YEAR" target="_blank" rel=" noreferrer noopener"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="1024" src="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Keeping-Students-Engaged-at-the-End-of-the-Year-9-Great-Activities-Images-4-1024x1024.png" alt="Math crafts are a fun way to add hands-on learning to the end of the school year." class="wp-image-10990488" style="width:412px;height:auto" srcset="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Keeping-Students-Engaged-at-the-End-of-the-Year-9-Great-Activities-Images-4-1024x1024.png 1024w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Keeping-Students-Engaged-at-the-End-of-the-Year-9-Great-Activities-Images-4-300x300.png 300w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Keeping-Students-Engaged-at-the-End-of-the-Year-9-Great-Activities-Images-4-800x800.png 800w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Keeping-Students-Engaged-at-the-End-of-the-Year-9-Great-Activities-Images-4-150x150.png 150w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Keeping-Students-Engaged-at-the-End-of-the-Year-9-Great-Activities-Images-4-768x768.png 768w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Keeping-Students-Engaged-at-the-End-of-the-Year-9-Great-Activities-Images-4-1536x1536.png 1536w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Keeping-Students-Engaged-at-the-End-of-the-Year-9-Great-Activities-Images-4.png 2048w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></a></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">One of the best ways I know to keep students engaged and learning at the end of the year is through hands-on learning. This might look like interactive games or center activities, or it might be adding a craft to a review activity. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I love using math crafts throughout the school year. They are a nice break from our typical practice activities. This <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Spring-Bulletin-Board-Math-Craft-with-Cross-Curricular-Writing-Options-7940676?utm_source=EI%20BLOG%20&amp;utm_campaign=KEEPING%20STUDENTS%20ENGAGED%20AT%20THE%20END%20OF%20THE%20YEAR" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Spring Math Craft</a> is perfect for the end of the school year. It is a great way to review the basic operations through hands-on learning. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">These types of hands-on activities are a great way to make the last couple weeks of school more exciting while reinforcing everything our students have worked on throughout the academic year.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Make the End of the Year Count</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">As the&nbsp;end of the school year approaches, finding ways to keep learning meaningful and exciting makes all the difference.&nbsp;Keeping students engaged at the end of the year isn’t just about filling time. It’s about celebrating their growth, reinforcing skills, and making sure they finish strong.&nbsp; There are so many ways to keep our&nbsp;students’ attention while still making learning fun. The&nbsp;last weeks of school should be a time of reflection, connection, and confidence-building. It gives our students the chance to show what they’ve learned while getting excited for the&nbsp;next grade level. With the right&nbsp;fun activities, we can turn these final days into something memorable and meaningful. We can ensure that every student crosses the&nbsp;finish line feeling successful.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Save for Later</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Remember to save this post for quick access to these resources for keeping students engaged at the end of the year!&nbsp;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">There&#8217;s no better time to work on classroom organization than during the final weeks of the school year. And. . . since you are already starting many of these tasks just to complete your end of the year wrap-up, it doesn&#8217;t take much extra work to get your room and supplies in tip-top shape for the new year. Trust me, your future self will thank you when you can rest over the summer knowing that you are ready to walk back into an organized and prepped space. In this blog post, I&#8217;m walking you through step-by-step classroom organization tips that you can use in your classroom. From taming the messy desk to preparing for the first week of school these tips will help you transform your room into a place that works for you and your students.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="576" src="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Year-End-Classroom-Organization-Ideas-Tips-for-Teachers-2-1024x576.png" alt="These year end classroom organization ideas and tips for teachers will help you stress less at the end of the school year." class="wp-image-10990378" style="width:722px" srcset="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Year-End-Classroom-Organization-Ideas-Tips-for-Teachers-2-1024x576.png 1024w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Year-End-Classroom-Organization-Ideas-Tips-for-Teachers-2-800x450.png 800w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Year-End-Classroom-Organization-Ideas-Tips-for-Teachers-2-300x169.png 300w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Year-End-Classroom-Organization-Ideas-Tips-for-Teachers-2-768x432.png 768w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Year-End-Classroom-Organization-Ideas-Tips-for-Teachers-2-1536x864.png 1536w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Year-End-Classroom-Organization-Ideas-Tips-for-Teachers-2-2048x1152.png 2048w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Why is Classroom Organization Important at the End of the Year?</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">There is a lot to do at the end of the school year. We’re all itching to head out the door when the last few weeks of school arrive. The thought of prepping for the next school year can feel like the last thing we want to tackle. But, focusing on classroom organization now will save you so much time and stress later. Imagine walking into summer knowing that you can enjoy every last minute because your room is ready for the new year!</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Since you are already doing clean-up tasks to close out the year, take it just a little further and you can be ready for the new year too! Whether you are a veteran teacher or finishing your first year, organizing at the end of the year gives you the perfect opportunity to clear out old items and take note of new needs. You can tidy up key problem areas and make room for positive changes. Whether restocking file folders, cleaning out desk drawers, or refreshing your classroom library, these small efforts will go a long way. By tackling it now, you’ll give yourself the ability to focus on the new year.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Spring Cleaning: Get A Head Start on Classroom Organization</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">We all know that the end of the year can be a busy time. That is why I love to start the process earlier with some spring cleaning. There are definitely some tasks that don&#8217;t have to wait until the end of the year. March is the perfect time to lay the groundwork for an organized classroom. By tackling smaller, manageable tasks now, you can lighten the load as the end of the school year approaches. This is when I focus on refreshing materials and restocking supplies. These early efforts save time and help me feel more in control as the busy months unfold. Let’s take a look at some spring cleaning tasks that will help you get started with your year end classroom clean-up and organization!</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">1. Organizing Classroom Games</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image alignleft size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="1024" src="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/classroom-games-1024x1024.png" alt="At the end of each year, it is important to check classroom games and activities." class="wp-image-10990357" style="width:410px" srcset="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/classroom-games-1024x1024.png 1024w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/classroom-games-300x300.png 300w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/classroom-games-800x800.png 800w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/classroom-games-150x150.png 150w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/classroom-games-768x768.png 768w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/classroom-games-1536x1536.png 1536w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/classroom-games.png 2048w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Games are a classroom favorite, but they can quickly become chaotic if not maintained. There’s nothing worse than reaching for a math game or vocabulary activity to find missing pieces or materials. This is why refreshing them is a key part of my classroom organization routine. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In March and April, focus on checking games that you won&#8217;t be using for the remainder of the year. Begin by checking that every game is complete. I want to make sure there are no missing cards, dice, or other pieces. This is a great task tackle with your students&#8217; help. Have a Friday afternoon of review with games. Let students play but build in time for them to check for missing pieces as they clean up. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If any games have worksheets, make sure there is at a minimum, a master included with the game. If you really want to get ahead, go and make a class set of copies so you a ready to go the next time you reach for it. </p>

<div style="height:0px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<div style="height:0px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">2. Prep Classwork You Use Each Year</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Having materials I use every year pre-prepped is a way to reduce stress during the busy back to school season. By organizing (and maybe even copying) them now, I give myself a head start on building a classroom environment that feels efficient from the start. Once you know that you will be teaching the same grade level and/or subjects you can get a jump start on this. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Gather masters of those resources you use year in and year out. At a minimum, label them with any task you will need to do. This might include a sticky note that says the number of copies and any copy instructions. If you have the ability, make those extra copies now and file them away for the new year.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Some resources I make sure to have ready are below!</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">August Number of the Day</h4>

<figure class="wp-block-image alignright size-large is-resized"><a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Number-of-the-Day-Worksheets-for-August-Math-Bellringers-or-Bellwork-4758102?utm_source=EI%20BLOG%20&amp;utm_campaign=CLASSROOM%20ORGANIZATION" target="_blank" rel=" noreferrer noopener"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="1024" src="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/3-1024x1024.png" alt="Prepare back to school materials at the end of the year." class="wp-image-10990347" style="width:410px" srcset="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/3-1024x1024.png 1024w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/3-300x300.png 300w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/3-800x800.png 800w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/3-150x150.png 150w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/3-768x768.png 768w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/3-1536x1536.png 1536w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/3.png 2048w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></a></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">My <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Number-of-the-Day-Worksheets-for-August-Math-Bellringers-or-Bellwork-4758102?utm_source=EI%20BLOG%20&amp;utm_campaign=CLASSROOM%20ORGANIZATION" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">August Number of the Day</a> is one of my go-to morning work resources at the beginning of the school year. This resource is perfect for building math fluency and creating consistent routines in the classroom. The problems start simple and become more challenging as the month progresses. This helps my students build confidence. I copy and prep the first month’s activities, place them in sheet protectors, and organize them into binders. Having these ready ensures that my morning math routine is seamless. It’s one less thing to think about when the school year begins.</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">August Calendar Writing</h4>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Another daily routine in my classroom is writing and this is my go-to resource. With its mix of persuasive, narrative, and expository prompts, my <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/August-Daily-Writing-Prompts-August-Daily-Prompts-9943438?utm_source=EI%20BLOG%20&amp;utm_campaign=CLASSROOM%20ORGANIZATION" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">August Calendar Writing</a> is a must-have for developing writing skills. The daily prompts are engaging and scaffolded, making it easier for my students to express their thoughts. I print a month’s worth of prompts and label them by day of the week. Then, I organize them in a folder for easy access. This preparation helps me focus on guiding my students through the writing process instead of worrying about planning each day.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Try out the calendar writing prompts by grabbing a month&#8217;s worth of free <a href="https://landing.mailerlite.com/webforms/landing/a9g2x4" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">National Day writing prompts</a> to use with your students!</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Back to School Fun Packet</h4>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">One of my favorite first week of school activities is the <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/September-Early-Finisher-Crossword-Back-to-School-Fun-Packet-With-Word-Scramble-11952992?utm_source=EI%20BLOG%20&amp;utm_campaign=CLASSROOM%20ORGANIZATION" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Back to School Fun Packet</a>. It is packed with engaging activities that set the tone for a fun and productive year. From puzzles to icebreakers, it’s a great way to get to know our students while teaching classroom expectations and reinforcing classroom routines. I prep and organize the materials to make sure my students can jump into learning without any downtime.</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">All About Me Activities</h4>

<figure class="wp-block-image alignleft size-large is-resized"><a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/All-About-Me-Back-to-School-Activities-print-and-digital-resources-5831214?utm_source=EI%20BLOG%20&amp;utm_campaign=CLASSROOM%20ORGANIZATION" target="_blank" rel=" noreferrer noopener"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="2048" height="2048" src="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/4-1024x1024.png" alt="These &quot;all about me&quot; activities&quot; are the perfect thing to have prepared for the beginning of the next school year." class="wp-image-10990348" style="width:410px" srcset="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/4-1024x1024.png 1024w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/4-300x300.png 300w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/4-800x800.png 800w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/4-150x150.png 150w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/4-768x768.png 768w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/4-1536x1536.png 1536w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/4.png 2048w" sizes="(max-width: 2048px) 100vw, 2048px" /></a></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">One of the first activities we do every year is an &#8220;all about me&#8221; style activity that helps us get to know each other. These <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/All-About-Me-Back-to-School-Activities-print-and-digital-resources-5831214?utm_source=EI%20BLOG%20&amp;utm_campaign=CLASSROOM%20ORGANIZATION" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">All About Me activities</a> are perfect for helping students build connections with each other and creating a welcoming classroom community. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The slides and printable pages encourage our students to share about themselves. This leads to them making strong connections between themselves and their classmates. I make sure these are prepped and ready for the first days of the year. It’s always exciting to see my students light up as they work on these and share their stories!</p>

<div style="height:0px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">3. Inventory of Supplies</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Taking inventory of supplies is one of the smartest things I do during my spring cleaning. I start by going through my teaching materials and checking what’s running low. Whether it’s glue sticks, dry-erase markers, or construction paper, I jot everything down so I’m not scrambling when August rolls around. I also review my storage areas, like my filing cabinet and book bins. I do this to ensure I have enough sheet protectors, labels, and organizational tools for the year ahead. This is also when I stock up on seasonal items for bulletin boards or themed stickers for student rewards.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image alignright size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="1024" src="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/5-1024x1024.png" alt="Take inventory of your supplies so you can see what is needed for the upcoming year." class="wp-image-10990349" style="width:410px" srcset="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/5-1024x1024.png 1024w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/5-300x300.png 300w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/5-800x800.png 800w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/5-150x150.png 150w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/5-768x768.png 768w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/5-1536x1536.png 1536w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/5.png 2048w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">When I find classroom supplies that I am running low on I add them to my supply list. I don&#8217;t run out and buy these things right away. Instead keep a list and add to it during the final months. At the end of the year, I review the list to decide what I need to get, what will come in as school supplies, and what I can request from my school.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">By prepping this list early, I’m ready to take advantage of summer back to school sales, dollar store finds, or Amazon must-haves. This helps me to save money and stock up at the same time. By having my supply list ready, I can make sure that I am ready to go for the new year. </p>

<div style="height:0px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">4. Classroom Organization Includes Birthday Goodies</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Birthday celebrations are such a fun way to make our students feel special. Having the supplies prepped ahead of time keeps things stress-free. I like to use small bags to create grab-and-go kits for each student. Inside, I include little treats like pencils, stickers, or bookmarks. Items are simple but meaningful. This ensures I’m not rushing around when a student’s birthday sneaks up on me during a busy week.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It’s also a perfect opportunity to stock up on supplies for the year. Whether it’s small goodies from the dollar store or bulk buys, planning this ahead helps me stay on budget. Plus, having these kits prepared makes my classroom feel like a welcoming space where every student knows they’re valued. It’s a small gesture, but it goes a long way in building positive relationships with my students. And. . . since nothing I put in the bags expires, I can prep them any time!</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">5. Draft Your August Newsletter</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image alignleft size-large is-resized"><a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/August-Calendar-2024-2025-Class-Newsletter-Template-Parent-Newsletter-Template-4845266?utm_source=EI%20BLOG%20&amp;utm_campaign=CLASSROOM%20ORGANIZATION" target="_blank" rel=" noreferrer noopener"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="1024" src="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/6-1024x1024.png" alt="Newsletters can help keep your classroom organized throughout the school year." class="wp-image-10990351" style="width:410px" srcset="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/6-1024x1024.png 1024w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/6-300x300.png 300w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/6-800x800.png 800w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/6-150x150.png 150w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/6-768x768.png 768w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/6-1536x1536.png 1536w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/6.png 2048w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></a></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Are you required to send home a newsletter of classroom happenings? Prep that first newsletter now with as much of the information as you possibly can. My <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/August-Calendar-2024-2025-Class-Newsletter-Template-Parent-Newsletter-Template-4845266?utm_source=EI%20BLOG%20&amp;utm_campaign=CLASSROOM%20ORGANIZATION" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">August Newsletter</a> is one of my favorite tools to prepare because it sets the tone for smooth communication with families during the first month of school. I include everything parents need to know, from important dates and routines to reminders about materials and classroom expectations. I make sure to highlight schedules and the first week of school activities so families can stay in the loop.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">By drafting and completing the newsletter in the spring, I free up extra time during the busy back-to-school season. I might have to wait to add some information at a later date, but this will take much less time than preparing the entire newsletter. </p>

<div style="height:0px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">6. Refresh Anchor Charts</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Anchor charts are an important part of my classroom because they provide my students with a quick visual reference for important concepts. That’s why taking the time to evaluate and refresh them is part of classroom organization. Take a few minutes to look through your anchor charts to decide which charts are still relevant and can be reused next year and which ones need to be recycled or recreated.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">For charts I’m keeping, I like to store them for easy access. If a chart is looking a little too worn or outdated, I might take the opportunity to make a fresh version, especially if I can use this opportunity to reteach a lesson as a refresher for my class. If not, I make a note of it in my lesson plans as a reminder to myself to create a new one next year.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">7. Organize Digital Files</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image alignright size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="1024" src="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/7-1024x1024.png" alt="Classroom organization goes beyond your physical space. Be sure to organize digital files also." class="wp-image-10990352" style="width:410px" srcset="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/7-1024x1024.png 1024w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/7-300x300.png 300w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/7-800x800.png 800w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/7-150x150.png 150w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/7-768x768.png 768w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/7-1536x1536.png 1536w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/7.png 2048w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Sorting and backing up digital files might not be the most exciting part of classroom organization, but it’s another important one. I take some time each spring to dive into my Google Drive to clean up the clutter and create a more efficient setup for the next school year.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I start by sorting everything into clearly labeled folders. Lessons go into subject-specific folders, teaching resources are grouped by category, and student data is organized so it’s easy to access when needed. This not only helps me stay on top of things but also makes it easier to share materials with teammates.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">As I go through files, I delete outdated materials and back up everything essential. Whether it’s on an external drive, a cloud service, or both, knowing my work is safely stored gives me peace of mind. This small effort now saves headaches later, especially when I need to find something in the middle of a busy week. </p>

<div style="height:1px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">8. Restock Materials for a Substitute</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Preparing substitute teacher materials is one of those tasks that always feels great to check off my classroom organization list. I like to have a few ready-to-go activities for each quarter of the school year. That way, when I need a last-minute sub, I have timely activities for my students to complete.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">During spring cleaning, I take the time to restock any of the activities that have been used. I also like to do a quick look through the pages in the sub binder to make sure that everything is still applicable. That way all I need to do in the new year is to update the class list, seating charts, and class schedule. Some of this information may need to be tweaked again at the beginning of the year, but a large chunk of it I try to prep before the end of the year. The little things, like this task, can add up to time savings later.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Classroom Tasks for the End of the Year</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">As the school year winds down, it’s time to shift focus to those bigger tasks that help close out the year and set the stage for a great start in the fall. While we’re all looking forward to summer break, dedicating a little extra effort now can save so much time and stress later. These end-of-year projects are the perfect way to ensure your classroom organization is on point before you walk out the door for the last time before the summer break.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">9. Clean All Surfaces</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image alignleft size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="1024" src="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/8-1024x1024.png" alt="Cleaning surfaces at the end of the year is a key step." class="wp-image-10990353" style="width:410px" srcset="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/8-1024x1024.png 1024w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/8-300x300.png 300w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/8-800x800.png 800w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/8-150x150.png 150w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/8-768x768.png 768w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/8-1536x1536.png 1536w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/8.png 2048w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Cleaning everything our students have touched might feel like a big job but if this is not something done by the custodial staff over the summer, then it is a really important one. I grab a stash of disinfecting wipes and get to work on all those high-touch surfaces like desks, chairs, manipulatives, and door handles. It’s amazing how much a deep clean can transform the classroom and make it feel refreshed.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I also take this time to wipe down shared items like teaching carts, supply bins, and even the classroom computer keyboard. Giving everything a good scrub helps keep the space tidy and prepares it for our new class. Plus, it’s a great opportunity to sort through materials as I clean, tossing anything broken or worn out.</p>

<div style="height:0px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">10. Classroom Organization for the Classroom Library</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The classroom library is one of the most loved spaces in my room. Giving it a thorough refresh at the end of the year is always at the top of my classroom organization list. This is another task that students can easily help with! During the final weeks of the year, have students dust off the shelves, clean out book bins, and reshelve books as they sort titles by genre or reading level. It’s a fun way to wrap up the year while teaching responsibility and teamwork.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">As students are working on this, have a designated place for them to put any book that needs a little TLC. Then at the end of the day you can take a few minutes to doctor up repairable books or recycle those that can&#8217;t be repaired. By having students help, you will save yourself lots of time but the end result will be the same.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">11. Bulletin Boards</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image alignright size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="1024" src="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/9-1024x1024.png" alt="Tackle classroom organization by removing old bulletin boards and preparing for next years bulletin boards." class="wp-image-10990354" style="width:410px" srcset="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/9-1024x1024.png 1024w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/9-300x300.png 300w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/9-800x800.png 800w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/9-150x150.png 150w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/9-768x768.png 768w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/9-1536x1536.png 1536w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/9.png 2048w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Wouldn&#8217;t it be amazing to start the year with bulletin boards that are already done or started? With a little planning, this can be a reality! At the end of the year, I take down all my boards and sort through the materials. Any pieces that are still in good shape get stored in ziploc bags or labeled folders, making them easy to reuse.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If allowed, put up your bulletin boards for the start of the new year. This might be fresh paper and boarder or it might include a full display. An easy, but loved display, includes advice for your new students. Have your class write letters to the new students filled with advice. Your new students and their parents will love reading the advice from your former students. Cover your new bulletin boards with an inexpensive plastic tablecloth from the dollar store. When you uncover them in August they will be ready to go and free from dust or fading.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you cannot prep your bulletin boards, you can still take some simple steps to save yourself time. To save time in August, I like to create ready-to-go bulletin board kits. These include everything I’ll need for a quick and stress-free setup, like laminated letters, pre-cut borders, and themed visuals. By prepping these kits now, I avoid the rush of trying to piece things together when the back-to-school season is in full swing.</p>

<div style="height:2px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">12. Declutter Your Space During Classroom Organization</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Decluttering is one of the most satisfying parts of classroom organization, especially at the end of the year. You will be going through lots of cabinets, shelves, and bins as you close down your classroom. Take a close look at everything and start tossing out anything broken or unusable. If you didn&#8217;t use it last year, consider removing it from your class too. It’s amazing how much clutter can accumulate over the course of a school year, and clearing it out feels like such a relief.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">For items that are still in good shape but I no longer use, I create a donation pile. Whether it’s extra manipulatives, duplicate teaching materials, or books from my classroom library, these resources can often be repurposed by another teacher or donated to a community organization.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">13. Clean Out Your Desk</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image alignleft size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="1024" src="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/10-1024x1024.png" alt="A final step in my classroom organization routine includes organizing my own desk." class="wp-image-10990355" style="width:410px" srcset="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/10-1024x1024.png 1024w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/10-300x300.png 300w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/10-800x800.png 800w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/10-150x150.png 150w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/10-768x768.png 768w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/10-1536x1536.png 1536w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/10.png 2048w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Cleaning out my desk and teacher work area is one of the final steps in my classroom organization routine, and it’s always worth the effort. I start by pulling everything out of the drawers like papers, supplies, and random odds and ends that have somehow accumulated throughout the year. Anything I don’t need, like outdated forms or broken supplies, gets tossed.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Next, I organize what’s left, making sure every item has a specific spot. For me, this means grouping similar items together, like pens and markers in one drawer and sticky notes, scissors, and staples in another. Using small containers inside the drawers keeps everything tidy and easy to find.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This task might seem like a small detail, but it has a big impact. Starting the new year with a clean, organized desk makes me feel more in control and ready to focus on teaching. Plus, it’s always a relief to say goodbye to the messy desk chaos and hello to a clutter-free workspace. </p>

<div style="height:0px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">14. Assess Classroom Layout</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">While you have access to your classroom and furniture take a few minutes to assess your classroom layout. It’s a chance to reflect on what worked and what didn’t over the past year. I start by taking a good look at my current classroom setup. I see where the desks are set up, how my books and resources are stored, and how learning centers are located. If there is anything I really like, I snap a few pictures so that I can remember when it is time to set up again. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Next, I think about how the classroom layout impacted the flow of the room. If students had a hard time navigating certain areas or if there were key problem areas that felt crowded, I make notes on how to improve them. I might even snap a picture on my phone to remember problem areas, too. By assessing these things before the end of the year, I have the summer to think about new ideas so I can implement changes in the new year. </p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">15. Take Inventory of Classroom Furniture</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image alignright size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="1024" src="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/11-1024x1024.png" alt="At the end of the year, be sure to check classroom furniture." class="wp-image-10990356" style="width:410px" srcset="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/11-1024x1024.png 1024w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/11-300x300.png 300w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/11-800x800.png 800w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/11-150x150.png 150w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/11-768x768.png 768w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/11-1536x1536.png 1536w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/11.png 2048w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">At the end of the year, I go through the room and carefully check all the furniture for signs of wear and tear. Wobbly desks? Loose chair legs? A bookshelf that’s barely holding on? Those items go on my list for repairs or replacements.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I also use this time to decide if certain pieces are still functional or if they’re just taking up valuable classroom space. For example, if a storage shelf hasn’t been as helpful as I hoped, I might replace it with something more practical. I might consider a teacher cart or compact filing cabinet. This ensures every piece of furniture supports the flow of daily routines.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">A Fresh Start With Classroom Organization</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The end of the year clean-up is the perfect time to set yourself up for a clean, clutter-free, and organized classroom. Since you are already going through all.the.things, it just makes sense to prepare for the future too.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">By starting with some spring cleaning and finishing with end-of-year prep, you can set yourself up for success while still making time to enjoy the <a href="https://elementaryislandblog.com/2024/04/26/teacher-summer-prep-activities/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">excitement of summer break</a>. A little effort now ensures that when the first week of school arrives, you’re ready to focus on what matters most, which is creating a positive and engaging environment for your new students in your well-organized classroom. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Save for Later</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Remember to save this post to your favorite teacher Pinterest board for quick access to these classroom organization ideas and resources!</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Can you feel it? The weather&#8217;s warming up, the days are stretching longer, and summer is on the horizon. The end of the school year is peeking around the corner, and our students at every grade level have definitely caught the summer bug! Honestly, who can blame them? We&#8217;re feeling the itch, too, as our thoughts of summer plans begin to frequent our minds. But, let&#8217;s not let the impending summer break dull the momentum we have created with our kids in our classrooms. I&#8217;m excited to share with you my top five end-of-the-year elementary activities. These activities spritz a burst of fun into those final weeks as we count down to the last day of school, making the school days pass by like a summer breeze.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="683" src="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/end_of_the_year_activities-1024x683.png" alt="Use these 5 End of the Year Activities for Elementary Students to wrap up an amazing year with your kiddos." class="wp-image-10989570" style="width:780px;height:auto" srcset="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/end_of_the_year_activities-1024x683.png 1024w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/end_of_the_year_activities-800x533.png 800w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/end_of_the_year_activities-300x200.png 300w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/end_of_the_year_activities-768x512.png 768w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/end_of_the_year_activities-1536x1024.png 1536w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/end_of_the_year_activities.png 1800w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Reflecting on Learning at End of the Year</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I always try to pause and reflect on the time I&#8217;ve spent with my kiddos. I find myself reflecting the most when we get to the end of the year. It&#8217;s a great time to notice how my kiddos have grown physically and academically. I observe the different shifts that take place in the classroom as the year goes on, such as new friendships, changes in interests, and even changes in emotions. I am always amazed to look back and see what we have accomplished so far in the months we have had together. This always makes me want to celebrate all the hard work they have done throughout the year! Plus, including engaging activities has some benefits.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image alignleft size-full is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="640" height="360" src="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/end_of_the_year_activities_2.png" alt="Using end of the year activities will help both you and your students reflect on the amazing work and achievements made during the school year." class="wp-image-10989572" style="width:491px;height:auto" srcset="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/end_of_the_year_activities_2.png 640w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/end_of_the_year_activities_2-300x169.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">As my students are participating in these activities, I know we don&#8217;t have much time but we continue to create memorable moments. Our classroom environment remains a positive space for learning. There&#8217;s less fidgeting, distractions, and wandering minds. They focus, interact with each other, and continue to practice the skills they are working on.&nbsp;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">As we near the last days of school, I know it feels like we are just surviving, but let&#8217;s flip the script! With thrilling activities that catch our students&#8217; attention, we can end the year on a high note! Each of these engaging activities goes beyond a movie day or a letter of the alphabet countdown. They are interactive learning activities that your students are going to love and won&#8217;t take you a lot of time to plan.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">5 End of the Year Activities for Elementary to Try<br></h2>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">1. End of the Year Lapbook<br></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">One of my favorites for this time of year is the <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/End-of-the-Year-Memory-Book-or-Lapbook-for-the-last-week-of-school-8048320?utm_source=EI%20BLOG&amp;utm_campaign=END%20OF%20YEAR%20ACTIVITIES" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">End of the Year Lapbook</a>. The process of completing it is always so worth it in the end when they see the final product. It&#8217;s almost like a time capsule for them to look back on in the later years! Not to mention, it&#8217;s a great opportunity for reflection for the kiddos too!</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I give each of my students the necessary pieces and, depending on the step, will hand them out one at a time so nothing gets lost in the shuffle. They each receive a printed graduation cap to cut in half and glue to the lapbook to open it. Then, I give them a little demographics slip they&#8217;ll glue onto the front of their lapbook as well. They&#8217;ll write their grade, age, teacher, school, and year. On the opposite lapbook flap, they&#8217;ll glue down the selfie box I give them where they can illustrate how they currently look!&nbsp;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Once that step is complete, I pass out the number sheet. They carefully cut out the numbers to make the current year and glue them underneath their picture. Choosing the colors of the numbers they are cutting out adds an opportunity for an individual touch!</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image alignright size-full is-resized"><a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/End-of-the-Year-Memory-Book-or-Lapbook-for-the-last-week-of-school-8048320?utm_source=EI%20BLOG&amp;utm_campaign=END%20OF%20YEAR%20ACTIVITIES" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="640" height="360" src="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/end_of_year_activities_2.png" alt="An end of the year lapbook activity like this is helps students break down their achievements and reflect on everything they loved about the year." class="wp-image-10989573" style="width:586px;height:auto" srcset="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/end_of_year_activities_2.png 640w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/end_of_year_activities_2-300x169.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></a></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Once the front of our lapbook is finished, we move on inside to reflect on some favorite &#8220;camera moments&#8221;. These camera moments are two highlights or fun memories from the school year. I give them the choice of illustrating these favorite memories or writing about them. Whichever they prefer!&nbsp;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The next piece I guide my students through is the flip book. There is a version for younger students in the primary grades and a version that is perfect for older students as well! Each flap of the flipbook has a different prompt for them to fill out. Some prompts include: </p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>favorite assignment from the year, </li>

<li>favorite book read, </li>

<li>favorite friend, </li>

<li>favorite special (P.E., Art, Music, Spanish, etc.), and </li>

<li>a spot for them to gather the autographs of their classmates! </li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Now, I personally spread out the pages throughout the week instead of trying to have my kiddos do them all at once. I have found that they put in more effort when I space them out for morning work each day for the week.&nbsp;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">There is another part for descriptive words that have them practicing adjectives. They take the lightbulb papers included and write down lessons they have learned. These can be academic lessons or lessons they learned about friendships or growth mindset, for example.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The finished lapbook is like a scavenger hunt of memories for the past year.&nbsp; Kids and parents both love this project and it makes a great keepsake for the year.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">2. Summer Coding End of the Year Elementary Activities<br></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">We spend time throughout the whole year practicing our coding skills. Overall, my kiddos really enjoy coding, but it always adds to the experience when tying the coding into a holiday or season. My <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Summer-End-of-the-Year-Unplugged-Coding-Worksheets-Differentiated-4576841?utm_source=EI%20BLOG&amp;utm_campaign=END%20OF%20YEAR%20ACTIVITIES" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">summer break coding activities</a> for elementary students are the perfect way to tie in summer fun to create that buy-in for their school work. It is a fun activity that works on important critical thinking and coding skills and the best part is &#8211; it&#8217;s differentiated!</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">How is this coding differentiated?</h4>

<figure class="wp-block-image alignleft size-full is-resized"><a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Summer-End-of-the-Year-Unplugged-Coding-Worksheets-Differentiated-4576841?utm_source=EI%20BLOG&amp;utm_campaign=END%20OF%20YEAR%20ACTIVITIES" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="640" height="360" src="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/end_of_year_activities_3.png" alt="End of the year activities like this summer coding activity is a great way to tie in some summer fun into those last few weeks of school." class="wp-image-10989574" style="width:530px;height:auto" srcset="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/end_of_year_activities_3.png 640w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/end_of_year_activities_3-300x169.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></a></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This particular activity comes in three different levels. The first level has a path that is already set for your students to follow. Then they choose where to place the summer pieces along the path. Four different moves need to be included in order to write the code. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In the next level, I have students who can easily follow directions to use this version. They are given the task of collecting pieces to help guide the direction of their path. For them to reach the sandcastle, they need to include five different moves before the end of the path. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The last level has students create their own code and apply coding strategies independently. Their challenge is to create their code, collect the needed items along the way, and avoid the traps! To top it all off, they will include six different moves along their path.&nbsp;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I use these three levels in a couple of different ways. If I want to differentiate my class, I will split them into circle or beginning-level, triangle or on-level, and star or above-level groups. Other times, I have used them more like tiers. They start with the beginning level and, once they have passed that, they move to the on-level map. This activity is flexible to meet the needs of your classroom! Plus, there&#8217;s even a coding game where it introduces how to write and draw code, which is a great way to review at the end of the year! My past and current students have had so much fun playing this game that I know that my future students will too.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">3. Time to Celebrate with These End of the Year Certificates<br></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I look forward to celebrating my students all year with these <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Class-Superlatives-End-of-Year-Awards-Editable-End-of-the-Year-Certificates-3724668?utm_source=EI%20BLOG&amp;utm_campaign=END%20OF%20YEAR%20ACTIVITIES" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">end of the year certificates</a>! Once spring break hits, I start preparing to celebrate their accomplishments and plan a party for them. This is easily in my top three on my list of end of the year activities! We take an afternoon (about an hour at the end of the day) during the last week of school and showcase them and their hard work. It&#8217;s the perfect time for a little celebration of all their work during the past school year.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image alignright size-full is-resized"><a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Class-Superlatives-End-of-Year-Awards-Editable-End-of-the-Year-Certificates-3724668?utm_source=EI%20BLOG&amp;utm_campaign=END%20OF%20YEAR%20ACTIVITIES" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="640" height="360" src="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/end_of_year_activities_4.png" alt="Celebrate each of your unique students with these end of the year awards and certificates." class="wp-image-10989575" style="width:534px;height:auto" srcset="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/end_of_year_activities_4.png 640w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/end_of_year_activities_4-300x169.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></a></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I have parents send in safe snacks for us to munch on. I make a playlist to have a celebration dance party. Then, we have a rewards ceremony to shout out each student for the quality that they showcased the most this year!&nbsp;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Maybe you have a student who was on top of their game when it came to homework. Another student might have demonstrated cooperative behavior in all types of situations. Or yet another student may have shown caring leadership skills. Another reward could go to someone who is always caring through random acts of kindness. The way their eyes light up and smiles start breaking out when their name is called is a highlight of the year. They truly feel like a valued part of our classroom community while being celebrated!&nbsp;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Make sure to read&nbsp;<a href="https://elementaryislandblog.com/2022/02/14/end-of-the-year-awards_01654998656/">How to Have the Best End of the Year Awards Ceremony&nbsp;</a>to learn more about how I celebrate my kiddos!</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">4. Mystery Math for End of the Year Elementary Activities</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Another end of the year activity that has my kiddos buzzing with excitement is <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/End-of-Year-Math-Crack-the-Code-Who-Dunnit-2nd-Grade-End-of-Year-Math-Review-6783208?utm_source=EI%20BLOG&amp;utm_campaign=END%20OF%20YEAR%20ACTIVITIES" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The End of the Year Math Crack the Code</a>. Do your students love escape rooms? If so, they are going to love this activity!</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Let me set the scene for you! Your school is gearing up for end of the year bash, and they&#8217;ve brought in a special guest to crank up the festivities. What&#8217;s the catch? The identity of this VIP is hidden in mystery, and the rumors are swirling!&nbsp; This math mystery is one of my favorite ways to review a variety of math skills at the end of the year.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image alignleft size-full is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="640" height="360" src="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/end_of_year_activities_5.png" alt="Use these mystery math worksheets in your end of the year activities for fun math skills practice your students will really get into." class="wp-image-10989576" style="width:528px;height:auto" srcset="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/end_of_year_activities_5.png 640w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/end_of_year_activities_5-300x169.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Once I have set the scene for my kiddos, they get ready to solve the mystery with their math skills. I can rest easy knowing my students will be invested while practicing their fractions, money, shapes, and telling time. As they go through each activity, they&#8217;ll discover a new clue to help them eliminate the guests until they find the culprit!&nbsp;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I love partnering my students up for this activity. As we know at the end of the year, any independent task feels much more exciting when it becomes a partner task. Listening to their excited voices, talking through their reasoning, and being excited with them when they solve the mystery correctly is so rewarding! There is no better way to review all of the math skills they learned than with a math mystery!</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">5. Creating Keepsakes with End of the Year Elementary Activities<br></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">As the year comes to a close, I always feel like I am extra sentimental. All the minor inconveniences of this time of year take the backseat for the moment. I want to soak up the last few months with my kiddos. While teaching second grade, I have learned how important that particular grade can be. It&#8217;s the last year of primary grades, as they&#8217;ll be beginning third grade and starting upper elementary. I want them to be able to look back and remember the memories of their second-grade year!&nbsp;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The<a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Second-Grade-End-of-the-Year-Flip-Flap-Book-for-the-last-week-of-school-2512827?utm_source=EI%20BLOG&amp;utm_campaign=END%20OF%20YEAR%20ACTIVITIES" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> End of the Year Memory Book for 2nd Grade</a> is a must-do activity with my students. It&#8217;s so easy to print and assemble, and they always turn out as a well-loved keepsake. They also make a great end-of-the-year interactive bulletin board. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image alignright size-full is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="640" height="360" src="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/end_of_year_activities_6.png" alt="This keepsake memory book is the perfect addition to your end of the year activities and will surely be treasured by parents for years to come." class="wp-image-10989577" style="width:559px;height:auto" srcset="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/end_of_year_activities_6.png 640w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/end_of_year_activities_6-300x169.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The first tab is called &#8220;My Life as a 2nd Grader&#8221;, where they write down their age and height. Then they use descriptive words they&#8217;ve learned during the year to describe themselves. They&#8217;ll record a talent they had or discovered, and then draw a selfie!&nbsp;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">On the next tab, I have my students reflect and describe the biggest accomplishment they remember the most. To help them get started, I ask them some questions to think about! Did they master a tricky math problem? Did they complete a writing piece in which they used capitalization, correct punctuation, and wrote neatly?</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The third tab is probably one of my favorite pages for them to work on. It&#8217;s called &#8220;Classroom Stats&#8221;, where they record how many classmates they have, how many boys, and how many girls. They write down who they think is the funniest and who they think is the hardest worker. Then they illustrate you, the teacher! I love their drawings, and they usually give me a good laugh!</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">After stats comes the tab for &#8220;What I Learned&#8221;. They are tasked with writing down a skill or topic they learned for all the subject areas. Subject areas include social studies, math, science, and more. In the last line, they actually write down something they learned about themselves. This one trips them up sometimes, but is still so important for them to see that learning doesn&#8217;t always come from a subject area!&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image alignleft size-full is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="640" height="360" src="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/end_of_year_activities_7.png" alt="With fun pages like these, your students will be able to remember all of the fun activities they did during the school year and is a great addition to your list of end of the year activities." class="wp-image-10989578" style="width:492px;height:auto" srcset="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/end_of_year_activities_7.png 640w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/end_of_year_activities_7-300x169.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">On the &#8220;Favorites&#8221; tab, they get a chance to record all of their favorite things! Some writing prompts include their favorite color, hobby, recess activity, lunch, and more! Their interests and favorites change so often that this is a fun way for them in the future to look back and see what their favorites were in second grade. It&#8217;s their own version of the Memories feature on our picture app!&nbsp;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">After the Favorites tab, there is the &#8220;My Top Ten Memories&#8221; tab. Before I let them start on their list, we usually do a brain dump on the board as a whole class. I bring them together to the carpet area in front of our board, and I ask them to share memories from their year. Memories could be from a real or virtual field trip, assemblies at school, a fun project, a guest speaker, and more! I write their ideas on the board to help their minds start sifting through their files. They return to their seats to write down their top ten from 10 down to 1 being the top favorite memory.&nbsp;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The very last page is a fan favorite amongst my students! It is a well-loved and filled-out autograph page. They have a blast rushing to each other to write messages and get each other&#8217;s autographs. Talk about a keepsake!&nbsp;</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Wrapping Up with End of the Year Elementary Activities</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image alignright size-full is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="640" height="360" src="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/end_of_year_activities_8.png" alt="Wrap up your year with these amazing end of the year activities your students will love." class="wp-image-10989579" style="width:505px;height:auto" srcset="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/end_of_year_activities_8.png 640w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/end_of_year_activities_8-300x169.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">As the end of the school year approaches, whether you&#8217;re teaching 2nd grade, 3rd grade, middle school, or even high school, you can feel like you are on a survival mission. There&#8217;s worry there isn&#8217;t enough time to get into a specific topic or more special events before next year&#8217;s students arrive. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">These thrilling end of the year activities for elementary students help the lesson plans become easier, and the days go by quickly. They spark fun memories all while practicing skills from the year. As my students dive into their lapbooks, STEM challenges through coding, spreading kindness with certificates, and more, the atmosphere of our classroom transforms into a positive space for learning. Fidgeting fades, distractions disappear, and those wandering minds find purpose in their partners or small groups.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">As we wrap up another school year, we can see the finish line with summer vacation on the other side where we can recharge for the next school year. These fun activities celebrate the learning, growth, and bonds we&#8217;ve created with our kiddos. The classroom will be filled with laughter, curiosity, and the satisfaction of a school year well spent. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I also like to send my students off with a small gift &#8211; a token of my appreciation for allowing me to get to know them that year. Obviously, it&#8217;s not big, but bubbles, sunglasses, ANYTHING that students can use so when they see it, they remember all the fun times we had! Here are some fun gift tags that you can attach to some of these gifts!</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">As the sun shines brighter and the days get longer, it&#8217;s time to gear up for some serious summer fun. By fun, I mean getting ready to rock the next school year! With the end of the school year quickly approaching, I always get a newfound level of energy to tackle my to-do list. You know, the list we write for all of our projects that we wish we had the time and mental capacity to accomplish during the school year! Today, I&#8217;m sharing with you some of the activities I do for teacher prep over the summer break to help me have me save time and stress less at the start of the school year! Grab a refreshing drink, and let&#8217;s dive in!</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="576" src="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Top-7-Teacher-Summer-Prep-Activities-for-Next-School-Year-2-1024x576.png" alt="This image says, &quot;7 Summer Prep Activities for Teachers to Make Back to School Easier&quot; and shows back to school resources for elementary teachers." class="wp-image-10989518" style="width:959px;height:auto" srcset="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Top-7-Teacher-Summer-Prep-Activities-for-Next-School-Year-2-1024x576.png 1024w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Top-7-Teacher-Summer-Prep-Activities-for-Next-School-Year-2-800x450.png 800w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Top-7-Teacher-Summer-Prep-Activities-for-Next-School-Year-2-300x169.png 300w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Top-7-Teacher-Summer-Prep-Activities-for-Next-School-Year-2-768x432.png 768w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Top-7-Teacher-Summer-Prep-Activities-for-Next-School-Year-2-1536x864.png 1536w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Top-7-Teacher-Summer-Prep-Activities-for-Next-School-Year-2-2048x1152.png 2048w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Why Teacher Prep Over Summer Break is Essential<br></h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I use the summer months to reflect on what went well in my class and what I would love to do differently for the upcoming school year. I also make sure to do some strategic prep over the summer as well. Now, you might be thinking, &#8220;But why spend my precious summer break prepping for the upcoming year?&#8221; Well, hold onto your beach hats because I&#8217;ve got some persuasive reasons why teacher prep over summer break is absolutely essential!&nbsp;</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Renewed Energy and Enthusiasm</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Let&#8217;s face it, teaching is one of the most rewarding, yet demanding, professions out there. By taking the time to prep over summer break, you&#8217;re giving yourself the gift of renewed energy and enthusiasm. Stepping away from the daily grind allows you to recharge your batteries. You&#8217;ll be able to approach the new school year with a fresh perspective and a spring in your step.&nbsp;</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Seamless Transitions</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Ever find yourself scrambling to get everything in order right before the start of the school year? Raises hand. We&#8217;ve all been there. By prepping over summer break, you can avoid those last-minute scrambles. Using our free time wisely in the summer sets us up for a smooth transition into the new school year. From setting up your classroom to designing your bulletin boards to finalizing lesson plans, knocking out small things ahead of time&nbsp;means less stress and more time to focus on what truly matters, which is our kiddos!</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Professional Growth</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Whether we are new teachers or have been around the block a few times, we are lifelong learners. Summer break provides us with a ton of time to invest in growth through professional development. There are so many different ways to participate in professional development during our free time. We can attend nearby workshops, attend virtual conferences, or collaborate with other teachers. We can sharpen our teaching skills and stay up-to-date with the latest trends and best practices for us to have a fresh start in the upcoming year.&nbsp;</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Setting Yourself Up for Success</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Teacher prep over summer break is all about setting ourselves up for success. By investing the time and effort before school starts, you&#8217;re laying the foundation for successful and fulfilling weeks of school. Whether it&#8217;s creating a positive classroom environment or developing great ideas for your subject area to try out, summer prep is key.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="576" src="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/1-1024x576.png" alt="This photo shows a well organized classroom. Organizing a classroom is an important part of teacher prep over summer." class="wp-image-10989484" style="width:722px" srcset="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/1-1024x576.png 1024w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/1-800x450.png 800w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/1-300x169.png 300w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/1-768x432.png 768w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/1-1536x864.png 1536w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/1.png 2000w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Recommended Teacher Prep Activities for the Summer</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Wondering where you should focus your energy in your summer prep activities? Not to worry &#8211; I&#8217;ve gotcha covered here! This is my personal list of the top 7 things you should consider doing over the summer. Take a peek and see if these ideas resonate with you and your classroom needs! </p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">1. Reflect on Resources and Materials</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">First things first, we need to look through our stash of resources and materials. You want to take a moment to go through what you used and what ended up gathering dust on the shelves. Take note of what you need as well as what you could donate to your local library, sell at garage sales, or post on social media. Then, see what you need to replenish or replace. Make a list of those items so that you can stock-up on the things you truly need.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">At my school, as we are packing our classrooms up, we have tables out in the hallway. We can place any items we do not want or need in our classrooms for other teachers to use.&nbsp;I&#8217;ve found a few gems this way and gotten rid of many other things that I knew still had life left in them. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">And. . . don&#8217;t forget those digital materials. Taking time to review your resources and materials includes your digital shelves, too! Your digital filing cabinet will likely need a little clean-up or organizing. While it may seem like an unusual task to do during the summer, when things start to get hectic you will be so glad you can find what you need quickly.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Looking for resources or classroom tools that will make your teaching life easier? Read&nbsp;<a href="https://elementaryislandblog.com/2022/02/14/amazon-teacher-must-haves/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Top 15 Teacher Must-Haves From Amazon</a>&nbsp;or&nbsp;<a href="https://elementaryislandblog.com/2022/03/16/30-teacher-must-haves/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">30 Classroom Must-Haves for an Awesome Year!</a>&nbsp;to help you discover some game-changers for your classroom.&nbsp;</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">2. Exploring New Ideas</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Now that we&#8217;ve taken stock of our resources, it&#8217;s time to look to the future. Is there anything new you&#8217;d like to try implementing in your classroom? Maybe you&#8217;re curious about <a href="https://elementaryislandblog.com/2019/11/25/how-to-implement-stem-in-classroom/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">incorporating STEM activities</a>. Maybe you felt like an area you could improve on is communication with families, so you&#8217;re going to look for new things to help strengthen that aspect. Use your free time to do some research and gather inspiration for fresh ideas to update your teacher toolkit.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image aligncenter size-large is-resized"><a href="https://elementaryislandblog.com/2019/11/25/how-to-implement-stem-in-classroom/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="576" src="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Top-7-Teacher-Summer-Prep-Activities-for-Next-School-Year-copy-1024x576.png" alt="In this photo, elementary aged students are using STEM materials. " class="wp-image-10989488" style="width:722px" srcset="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Top-7-Teacher-Summer-Prep-Activities-for-Next-School-Year-copy-1024x576.png 1024w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Top-7-Teacher-Summer-Prep-Activities-for-Next-School-Year-copy-800x450.png 800w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Top-7-Teacher-Summer-Prep-Activities-for-Next-School-Year-copy-300x169.png 300w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Top-7-Teacher-Summer-Prep-Activities-for-Next-School-Year-copy-768x432.png 768w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Top-7-Teacher-Summer-Prep-Activities-for-Next-School-Year-copy-1536x864.png 1536w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Top-7-Teacher-Summer-Prep-Activities-for-Next-School-Year-copy.png 2000w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></a></figure>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">3. Maximizing Your Space</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Next up, let&#8217;s talk space. Take a really close look at your classroom layout and organization. Did you make the most of your space? Were there areas that felt cluttered or not used as much as it should have been? There has never been a year where I have kept my room exactly the same as the previous school year. It always seems as though there is at least one thing that could be improved, so look hard and long at your layout to find solutions to your pain points!</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Draw a few different room diagrams to see how the different ways can increase student engagement and encourage smooth transitions. You might have to rearrange furniture, create learning zones, or add visual cues for organizations. I also highly recommend considering how student supplies are stored for easy access and organization. This is one area of the classroom that often needs a little extra love! </p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">4. Fine-Turning Routines and Procedures<br></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Ah, routines and procedures. They are the backbone of our teaching life. This is probably one of the activities I spend the most time on before next year. I take the time to really reflect on which ones worked. Then, I brainstorm routines and procedures that could become more efficient. Think about whether or not your morning routine ran like clockwork. If not, think about the hiccups that happened along the way. As you reflect, you might even decide to shake things up and try out a new system. It could be a new morning work activity, or it could be using a numbering system to make lining up faster. Summer is the perfect time to tweak these routines and procedures.&nbsp;</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">5. Preparing for the First Week of School<br></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The first week of school can be a whirlwind of excitement and anticipation. There is little time once the first kiddo arrives on the first day of school. You want to make sure you&#8217;re prepared by having your first week of work printed and ready to go. From icebreaker activities to setting expectations, having a plan in place will help you hit the ground running. Plus, it will set the tone for a successful school year ahead.&nbsp;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I use my&nbsp;<a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Back-to-School-Activities-with-Meet-the-Teacher-templates-All-About-Me-more-9760568?utm_source=EI%20BLOG&amp;utm_campaign=TEACHER%20PREP%20OVER%20SUMMER" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Back to School Basics Bundle</a>&nbsp;to help my students have a successful year! In this resource, you have access to all the things teachers need to have a strong start to the year. There are templates for Meet the Teacher, Parent / Teacher conference forms, and a classroom calendar or newsletter. The more your families know about you, the more they can start building that trust with you. To break the ice those first few days, help your students feel more comfortable with their new grade level with a game of BINGO and an All About Me activity. Lastly, your teacher prep over the summer needs to include these encouraging classroom rewards and reward posters to increase that excitement level amongst your new students!&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image aligncenter size-large is-resized"><a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Back-to-School-Activities-with-Meet-the-Teacher-templates-All-About-Me-more-9760568?utm_source=EI%20BLOG&amp;utm_campaign=TEACHER%20PREP%20OVER%20SUMMER" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="576" src="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/2-1024x576.png" alt="This image shows a great resource to use during teacher prep over summer. <h3 class="wp-block-heading">6. Meal Prep&nbsp;</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Let&#8217;s talk about a practical tip for real life, shall we? The first month of school can be absolutely hectic. Meal prepping freezer meals or finding new recipes to meal prep, later on, is a great way to give you back time once school starts. Trust me, your future self will thank you when you&#8217;re knee-deep in lesson planning and parent-teacher conferences. As teachers, we make hundreds of decisions throughout the school day. By the time we get home, the last thing we want to think about is having to make dinner or prep something for lunch the next day. Whip up some easy freezer-friendly meals now, and you&#8217;ll have one less decision to worry about during those crazy busy days!&nbsp;</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">7. Rest and Recharge</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Last but certainly not least, please don&#8217;t forget to prioritize rest and relaxation. Summer break is your chance to recharge your batteries. Indulge in some much-needed self-care guilt-free. Turn the alarms off, go to the bathroom whenever you need to, and get outside to enjoy the sunlight. If you take anything away from this blog post, it&#8217;s that you deserve this much-needed rest. You deserve to catch up on sleep, binge-watching your favorite Netflix series and spend that extra time with your family. Soak it up and be present in each of those moments! When you take care of yourself, that&#8217;s when you&#8217;re able to be the best teacher for your kiddos.&nbsp;</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Teacher Summer Prep Made Easy</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Teacher prep over the summer is not just a task to check off your to-do list. It&#8217;s about creating and improving systems that set the stage for an incredible year ahead for you and your students. By taking this time to think over your teaching practices, explore new ideas, and fine-tune your classroom environment, you&#8217;re investing in your own growth and your students&#8217; growth. So, as you soak up the sun and embrace the joy of learning this summer, remember the next year of school is full of possibilities. With a little summer prep, you&#8217;ll be ready to energize your classroom and tackle whatever challenges come your way with confidence!&nbsp;</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Save These Teacher Summer Prep Ideas for Later</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Remember to save this post to your favorite teacher Pinterest board for your teach prep over summer break!&nbsp;<br></p>

<div style="text-align: left;">So you want some awesome tips and tricks to run your own special classroom awards ceremony at the end of the year? Well, I have got you covered! Here are some ideas that I have loved and used throughout the years.</div>
<h2 style="text-align: left;">1. Create an Invitation</h2>

<div>You can just create a simple invitation that tells students a little bit about the ceremony and when it will be taking place. If parents or family members are invited, make sure to include that on the invitation too.&nbsp; With ready-to-use designs and templates, <a href="https://www.canva.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Canva</a>&nbsp;is a great place to go to create your invitation.</div>
<div></div>
<div>You can personalize the invitations or put them in an envelope and address them to your students.&nbsp; Either way, the personal touch will be just what you need to kick off the end-of-the-year celebration.</div>

<p> 2. The Awards</h2>
<div><a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/End-of-the-Year-Editable-Superhero-Awards-2559823?utm_source=Elementary%20Island&amp;utm_campaign=How%20to%20have%20the%20best%20end%20of%20the%20year%20award%20ceremony" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" alt="Use these editable superhero themed end of the year awards for your awesome students this year." border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1080" height="320" src="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/end-of-the-year-awards_01654998656-2-2065474879.png" class="wp-image-10988297" title="Superhero Themed End of the Year Awards For Students" width="320" srcset="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/end-of-the-year-awards_01654998656-2-2065474879.png 1080w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/end-of-the-year-awards_01654998656-2-2065474879-300x300.png 300w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/end-of-the-year-awards_01654998656-2-2065474879-800x800.png 800w" sizes="(max-width: 320px) 100vw, 320px" /></a>Before the big day, decide on the awards that you will be giving out.&nbsp; Will you give out fun awards that highlight students&#8217; talents, personality, and character or will you do academic or achievement awards?&nbsp; Maybe a combination of both is the perfect way to wind up the year.&nbsp; That&#8217;s my preference for sure.</div>
<div></div>
<div>I love to award students for the hard work they have put in throughout the school year. It is always important for me to pick out those specific characteristics or strong points for each student, and let them shine. That is why I love using&nbsp;<a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/End-of-the-Year-Editable-Superhero-Awards-2559823?utm_source=EI%20Blog&amp;utm_campaign=End%20of%20the%20Year%20Awards%20Ceremony%20%7C%20Superhero%20Awards">editable superhero themed awards</a>. I can make the certificates special and personal for each unique student.&nbsp;</div>
<div></div>
<div><a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/50-End-of-the-Year-Awards-and-Editable-3724668?utm_source=Elementary%20Island&amp;utm_campaign=How%20to%20have%20the%20best%20end%20of%20the%20year%20award%20ceremony" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em; text-align: center;" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" alt="Use these rockstar end of the year certificates to celebrate each of your students achievements this year." border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1080" height="320" src="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/end-of-the-year-awards_01654998656-2-798437571.png" class="wp-image-10988298" title="Editable Rockstar Personalized End of the Year Awards Certificates" width="320" srcset="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/end-of-the-year-awards_01654998656-2-798437571.png 1080w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/end-of-the-year-awards_01654998656-2-798437571-300x300.png 300w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/end-of-the-year-awards_01654998656-2-798437571-800x800.png 800w" sizes="(max-width: 320px) 100vw, 320px" /></a>I&#8217;ve also used these rockstar-themed awards for highlighting students&#8217; achievements and talents.&nbsp; The students feel so special when they realize that their teacher noticed unique qualities and special traits about them.&nbsp;&nbsp;</div>
<div>I find that choosing awards for my students is something I take very seriously.&nbsp; Over the years I&#8217;ve learned that waiting until the last minute to decide on awards makes me feel stressed.&nbsp; Instead, I like to start working on student awards after we return from spring break.&nbsp; I begin by making a list of my students and a list of the awards I want to give out.&nbsp; For the first couple of weeks, I jot down notes on my students and make any award assignments that come easily.&nbsp; Then I set aside some time to review my notes and finish assigning awards.</div>
<p>One to two weeks before the awards ceremony I grab my list, open up the editable awards, and fill them in.&nbsp; Then I print, sign and set them aside for awards day.</div>
</p>
<h2 style="text-align: left;">3. Set the Scene</h2>
<div>You don&#8217;t have to spend a ton of time or money to create a special environment for the awards ceremony.&nbsp; You can make it as elaborate or as simple as you&#8217;d like.&nbsp; An easy and inexpensive way to transform the room is with a <a href="https://amzn.to/34wUiR3" target="_blank" rel="noopener">party backdrop</a>.&nbsp; These plastic backdrops are easy to hang over the front board to set the scene.&nbsp; Another really easy backdrop is a digital backdrop.&nbsp; Simply choose an image with the backdrop you&#8217;d like and then project it on the front board.&nbsp;&nbsp;</div>
<div></div>
<div>A few props you can really transform your classroom for this event.&nbsp; Here are a couple easy ideas to consider: roll out the red carpet by laying an aisle of red butcher paper; set up a podium and use a microphone (even if it&#8217;s not on);&nbsp; rearrange the tables and chairs to feel like a ceremony instead of a classroom.&nbsp;</div>
<div></div>
<div>Finally, consider adding some streamers and/or balloons to the space to really let students know that this is a celebration of all their hard work.</div>
<div></div>
<h2 style="text-align: left;">4. Pass the popcorn</h2>
<div><a href="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/end-of-the-year-awards_01654998656-2-1405913073.png" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em; text-align: right;"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" alt="A great idea for an end of the year celebration could include snacks like popcorn." border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1080" height="320" src="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/end-of-the-year-awards_01654998656-2-1405913073.png" class="wp-image-10988299" title="End of the Year Awards Ceremony Ideas" width="320" srcset="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/end-of-the-year-awards_01654998656-2-1405913073.png 1080w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/end-of-the-year-awards_01654998656-2-1405913073-300x300.png 300w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/end-of-the-year-awards_01654998656-2-1405913073-800x800.png 800w" sizes="(max-width: 320px) 100vw, 320px" /></a>Yes, snacks are important! What celebration is complete without snacks? Here are some easy snack ideas for your end of the year awards celebration:</div>
<div>
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li>Popcorn is always a hit and super easy to make in big batches.&nbsp;</li>
<li>You could have students bring in a snack</li>
<li>Cookies and punch is always a great treat at an awards ceremony</li>
</ul>
<p>Having snacks to go along with the ceremony will make it feel extra special!&nbsp; This is also a nice addition to an event where parents and family are invited.&nbsp; It&#8217;s a nice way to celebrate them and their hard work during the year too!&nbsp;&nbsp;</p></div>
<h2 style="text-align: left;">5.&nbsp; The Awards Ceremony</h2>
<div>Now that the anticipation is built, the stage is set and everyone has their snacks, it is time for the big event, the awards ceremony! My focus for the day is always celebrating the students.&nbsp; You can make this a great experience for each and every student.&nbsp;</div>
<div></div>
<div>I like to order my awards ceremony so that each student gets a special time.&nbsp; I talk about the child, the award(s), and then have the audience give a big drum roll and cheer loudly as the students walk up to accept their special award. I also allow each student to give a small speech.&nbsp; We talk about this in advance and students know that they only have a minute or two to speak.&nbsp; You will be surprised at what they have to say!</div>
<div></div>
<div>You can also add a little suspense to your awards ceremony by announcing each award individually.&nbsp; By the end, all students will have had a chance to receive one or more awards.</div>
<div>
<h2 style="text-align: left;">6. Take Time to Reminisce</h2>
</div>
<div><a href="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/end-of-the-year-awards_01654998656-2-778885.png" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" alt="Creating a video slideshow is a great way to remember all the fun and learning from the year." border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1080" height="320" src="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/end-of-the-year-awards_01654998656-2-778885.png" class="wp-image-10988300" title="Students watching video" width="320" srcset="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/end-of-the-year-awards_01654998656-2-778885.png 1080w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/end-of-the-year-awards_01654998656-2-778885-300x300.png 300w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/end-of-the-year-awards_01654998656-2-778885-800x800.png 800w" sizes="(max-width: 320px) 100vw, 320px" /></a>A favorite part of our end-of-the-year celebration time is always the slide show.&nbsp; This is a more time-intensive activity to prep, but well worth it.&nbsp; If you know that this is something you want to do I suggest starting early.&nbsp; All year long, you will need to be taking photos so that you can fill the video with your class memories.&nbsp; I like to set a few times of the year that I work on the video and add available photos. That way all I&#8217;m left to do at the end of the year is finalize it. Yes, you can wait and create it all at once, but plan on setting aside a few hours (or more) to get everything ready.</div>
<div></div>
<div>While it takes time to create a photo slide show or video, I think it is well worth it.&nbsp; Students and parents love looking back on the year,&nbsp; laughing, and remembering all the great times. Sharing a link to the video or providing each student with their own copy is a nice treat too!&nbsp; And . . . if your video debuts before the last day of school, your students will likely beg to watch it again and again!</div>
<h2 style="text-align: left;">7. Time for an Autograph</h2>
<div>Whether you have school yearbooks, a class memory book, or are looking for another way to remember students, memorializing their autographs is a great way to do it.&nbsp; Set aside some time for students to sign each other&#8217;s yearbook or memory book.&nbsp;</div>
<div></div>
<div>I also like to create a special object that each student in the class signs.&nbsp; It stays in the room for years to come.&nbsp; Not only do I love looking at them to remember all the past years, but the students love returning to the room to see their names.&nbsp; &nbsp; Some objects include a mat for a framed class picture, a beach ball, or a t-shirt.&nbsp; Choosing an object that reminds you of the class gives it an extra special meaning.&nbsp;</div>
<h2 style="text-align: left;">8. End of the Year Gift</h2>
<div>What student doesn&#8217;t love to get a thoughtful little gift from their teacher? I love giving each of my students a small gift at the end of the year.&nbsp; It&#8217;s a great way to celebrate their accomplishments and show them how proud I am of them.&nbsp; This doesn&#8217;t need to be elaborate or expensive to have a special meaning.&nbsp;</div>
<div></div>
<div>The local dollar store has tons of budget-friendly options for the whole class! Some ideas I like to use are bubbles (you blow me away), frisbee (this year flew by), and Kool-aid (have a Kool summer). Grab these&nbsp;<a href="https://landing.mailerlite.com/webforms/landing/v9t5j7">FREE gift tags</a>&nbsp;to add to your gifts!&nbsp;&nbsp;</div>
<div></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://landing.mailerlite.com/webforms/landing/v9t5j7" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" alt="This FREEBIE has everything you need to get the perfect end of the year student gifts." border="0" data-original-height="922" data-original-width="1190" height="319" src="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/end-of-the-year-awards_01654998656-2-1380239058.png" class="wp-image-10988301" title="End of the Year Student Gift Ideas FREEBIE" width="412" srcset="https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/end-of-the-year-awards_01654998656-2-1380239058.png 1190w, https://elementaryislandblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/end-of-the-year-awards_01654998656-2-1380239058-800x620.png 800w" sizes="(max-width: 412px) 100vw, 412px" /></a></div>
<h2 style="text-align: left;">Make it Your Own</h2>
<div>I hope these tips and ideas will help you to make the end of the year a special time for your students.&nbsp; While these ideas work well for me, take them, change them and make them work for you and your students.&nbsp;&nbsp;</div>
<div></div>
<div>Hate taking pictures?&nbsp; No problem, don&#8217;t do a slide show or ask a parent to head this up.&nbsp; Have a limited amount of time, pick and choose the most important activities you feel will make it a special time. You know your students and your classroom better than anyone. Trust your instincts and focus on celebrating your students.</div>
<div></div>
<div>
<div>Just a little bit of preparation will make a huge impact as you send your students off at the end of the year. Students will feel fantastic about their accomplishments in the classroom and have so much fun celebrating each other too.&nbsp;</div>
<div></div>
<div>You can also send home a special note to parents, thanking them for being a part of the class and sharing their sweet little students with you for the year. All these little touches will add up to one amazing awards ceremony that you will want to repeat every single year! I hope you enjoy your ceremony as much as we do!&nbsp;</div>
</div>
